Summer is here, which means it’s time to switch up your skincare routine. Hot and humid summers usually mean oily skin everywhere. This all-over greasy feeling happens because heat makes your skin produce more oil than it normally would. If you are looking for ways to keep the oily skin at bay, here are five tips to try.
1. Stay Hydrated

Just like the rest of your body, your skin needs hydration. While drinking water definitely helps, it is important to keep your face hydrated with light, moisturizing gels and toners. Be sure to examine the ingredient lists posted and avoid body care products with oil or drying alcohols in them. This applies to your lips too. You can swipe moisturizing toners over your lips to help keep them hydrated and feeling less greasy.
2. Exfoliate Regularly

Hot weather means extra oil on your face, which can lead to clogged pores. To prevent clogged pores and oil build-up, use a clay mask or a peel-off mask over your face once a week. While you should avoid putting these masks on your lips, you can use gentle exfoliating scrubs to keep your lips smooth and matte. Be sure not to overdo it, though, otherwise your skin will be seriously oily and dried out.
3. Cleanse Gently

When skin gets oily, the natural reaction is to scrub it clean. Unfortunately this just makes the situation worse. Harsh soaps or scrubs will actually make your face oilier, because they strip all of the natural moisture away from your skin. So, if you’re feeling greasy, reach for a gentle cleansing water or an alcohol-free toner to wipe away the sticky feeling.
4. Keep Blotting Papers Handy

Instead of washing or wiping your face whenever it feels oily, try blotting your skin with oil-absorbing sheets. These sheets are specially made to soak up excess oil without wiping off makeup or sunscreen, so you can mattify your whole face without reapplying your sunscreen or makeup.
5. Use Matte Lip Balm

If your lips start to feel greasy or oily, the best thing to do is wipe them clean and then apply a moisturizing, matte lip balm. Glosses tend to be too sticky and shiny, which can make your lips feel worse. Reach for a plain balm with SPF and lanolin to keep your lips healthy and grease-free.

Use these five tips to help you find the right summer products to help keep your oily skin at bay and remember that your lips need some summer care too.
